Jan Cooper said she was having a coffee when she spotted the marsupial at her home in Blue Waters Drive, Lyme Regis, just after 0700 BST.
She called the RSPCA but the wallaby fled after about 90 minutes.

The San Bernardino Sun says 50-year-old Dodi Wasbotten of Fontana entered the pleas Monday in San Bernardino County.
A thief dubbed the "Granny Bandit" robbed four women earlier this month outside department stores.
The nickname was based on descriptions of the robber as an older-looking woman, although she concealed her face with sunglasses and a scarf.

He claims the tattoo - which translates as 'Stone Disease' - was given to him by staff at Yunnan Stone Disease Hospital after he had gall stones removed.
The hospital has now called police to try to evict Sheng - but he has welcomed the police involvement and asked them to investigate.
